Unreal Tournament 2003/04 Plugin Player Model:

                Rinoa Heartilly

by KDR_11k (KDR_11k@hotmail.com)
original concept property of SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD.

Installation:
Unzip (with subfolders intact) into your UT200X directory.
The bio is in the UPL, it should show up automatically in UT2004.

Description:
For the three and a half people who don't know, Rinoa is the female lead character of Final Fantasy VIII, according to the numbers I saw the best selling game of the Final Fantasy franchise and available for both Playstation and PC. Apparently she's very popular among cosplayers (for the people not versed in anime-nut-speak that means people who show up on conventions costumized as some anime character), leading to some pics of people who... um... don't have quite the right shape for playing Rinoa.
The first Google image search result I got for Rinoa was a hentai pic (that's anime-nut-speak for anime porn, should I emphasize that Rinoa isn't even 18?). I wonder if that says anything about the inclinations of her fanbase...

Technical Details:
The model comes at 2193 triangles and 1169 vertices, which is a bit under the UT2003/04 standard of 3500 triangles per playermodel. Rinoa uses one 1024x1024 texture compressed in DXT1 (again, less than the default 2 1024x1024 DXT1 textures) set to masked and double sided (double sided doesn't work if the material is neither masked nor alpha). since the backfaces aren't culled she has a slightly higher impact on the rendering times, which shouldn't be that large due to hidden surface removal and her lower triangle count.
The standard HumanFemale skeleton and animset were used for the model.

Known Issues:
Her coat tail was shortened a bit so it works with the default animations. I don't want to animate a complete UT2004 playermodel with Milkshape.
Rinoa's hair is too long for the default skeletons but I think I solved that good enough. The deformation isn't too prominent in the game itself and works fairly well considering long hair plus default animations is usually a good recipe for desaster.
During her walkcycle and when dead her legs can clip through the coat tail, this is nothing serous, the walk cycle clips only for the fraction of a frame and clipping death positions happen very rarely (who has the time to watch their character die, anyway? You're supposed to respawn and kick some ass!)

Redistribution:
This model may only be redistributed with the readme intact and free of charge. Any modifications to the model need to be declared in a file included in the archieve (can be appended to this file) and credits must be given properly (that doesn't just mean my name, but yours as well, after all I don't want to get blamed for some third party's modifications to the model).
Selling this model isn't just disrespectful of my work, it's a rip off and, more important, making money of other people's intellectual property (that constitutes copyright infringement). Expect Square Enix to pull down your door if you try that.
If you care and the site still exists, you can find the model (and others) on my homepage at http://members.tripod.de/KDR_11k/ and probably a few other sites later on.

Since this model is distributed for free, I won't take liability for any damage, direct or indirect, caused by the proper or improper usage of this model or any associated content. If you, for some reason, had to pay money for this, smack the scammer a good one and demand your money back.

Yes, I do use a template for these readmes, why are you asking?
